Production

The most important raw materials for the production of glass containers are quartz sand, cullet, calcite and soda. Since glass is a material that can be completely recycled, at Vetropack glassworks there is a tendency to use the highest possible percentage of cullet in the glass mixture.

The preparation of the mixture for glass containers is performed in a fully automated batch plant according to the prescribed recipe. This batch is placed in a furnace where it is smelted at a temperature of 1,580 degrees. The red-hot glass mass from the furnace enters the feeder where the shape and weight of the glass gob (drop) are determined according to the specific article being manufactured. The gob drops into the blank mold where it is subjected to compressed air or pressed by a piston, depending on the process, in order to fashion the bottleneck and preliminary shape, and then receives its final shape in the blow mold.

This is following by gradual cooling in a lehr and final finishing, providing the outer surface with additional protection from friction, scratches and breakage. The bottles are then subjected to visual, mechanical and electronic controls. After quality testing, the glass bottles are automatically arranged on pallets and covered with shrink wrap. The packaged and protected bottles are then sent to the finished products warehouse.
